Advanced Education Clinics: General Practice Residency (GPR)

Description of Care
The LSUHSC School of Dentistry General Practice Residency (GPR) treats dental patients at clinics in both New Orleans and Baton Rouge. A clinic is located at the dental school in New Orleans; the Baton Rouge clinic is located at 7777 Hennessey Blvd., Plaza 1, Suite 312, Baton Rouge, LA 70808. A clinic at the University Medical Center (UMC) is also open for medically complex patients who cannot be treated safely outside of a hospital setting.

Residents in the one-year GPR program are dentists who function as part of a hospital team and gain competency in diagnosing and rendering comprehensive and preventive dental treatment for the medically compromised patient. Residents are closely supervised by LSUHSC School of Dentistry faculty members.

Become a Patient
Appointments at the two GPR clinics are made by dentist referral only. To fax a referral letter to GPR, dentist's should indicate the patient's name, contact number, and the specific reason for the referral. Doctors should call 504-941-8408 or fax to 504-941-8394 to refer a patient.

Referral Form

To contact the clinic at UMC, call 504-702-5126 or fax to 504-702-3170. Be sure to indicate that the referral is to the GPR clinic.

To refer patients to the clinic in Baton Rouge, dentists should phone 225-765-0100 or 225-765-0101, or fax referral forms to 225-765-0102.

Treatment Fees
LSUHSC School of Dentistry General Practice Residency fees will typically be 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of private practice. Before providing each patient with an estimate of treatment costs, a thorough examination and the necessary x-rays will be performed. With this information, we can diagnose the case, develop a treatment plan that helps meet the patient's goals, and provide the patient with an estimate of the costs involved.

Treatment in other departments at LSUHSC School of Dentistry requires additional fees.
