Education Clinics: Oral and Maxillofacial
Description of Care
Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) at
the LSUHSC School of Dentistry (LSUSD) treats both children and
adults who are
current patients in the dental school clinic
or have been referred by a dentist or physician.
Residents in the
six-year program receive both a medical degree and a
certificate in OMS.
The program is closely supervised by five
full-time and fifteen part-time board certified
oral and maxillofacial surgeons.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery residents treat
extensive hard- and soft-tissue
trauma, pathology, and temporomandibular joint disorders.
They perform cosmetic surgery, maxillofacial
reconstruction, preprosthetic and implant
surgery, and complicated tooth extractions.
LSUSD: Referral by dentist or physician only:
Appointments in the dental school clinic are made by
referral from dentist or physician. Doctors may fax a referral letter to
OMS, indicating the patient's name, contact
number, and the specific reason for the referral. The
patient will receive a call from the OMS
scheduling clerk within 3-4 weeks. Doctors should call 504-941-8408
or fax to 504-941-8394 to
refer a patient.
OMS is not accepting
single tooth extractions; these should be
referred to Interim Louisiana Hospital
Interim Louisiana Hospital: Self-referral Clinic:
To schedule an appointment, call 504-903-2373 or
or physicians can fax referrals to
504-903-3705. Appointments are
care OMS, there is a $35 consult fee and $66
for the panorex x-ray. Only panorex x-rays taken within one
year will be accepted from outside referrals and can be emailed to
firstname.lastname@example.org. Please be sure to include the
date and patient's name on the x-ray prior to emailing
or include this information in the email.
The cost for
an extraction ranges between $92 and $294, which will be
determined at the time of the consult.
Louisiana Hospital: OMS fees are on a sliding scale,
based on the patient's ability to pay.
in other departments at LSUHSC School of Dentistry
requires additional fees. Referrals involving
multiple extractions, implants or comprehensive
treatment will be referred to the adult screening

clinic is located on the 4th floor of the LSUHSC School
of Dentistry Clinic Building. Hours:
Monday through Friday, 8:30 -11:30 a.m.
and 1:00-4:30 p.m.
Interim Louisiana Hospital:
The dental clinic is located at 2021 Perdido
Street, 4th floor east.
Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
