Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship

Louisiana State University’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program offers a twelve-month Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship program. This Internship program has been available for a number of years and has been quite successful in preparing those individuals who feel they need additional experience following graduation from dental school in order to make their applications competitive for advanced education in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The Internship position is fully integrated with our residency program and consists of 12 months of clinical Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

At the present time, there are two rotations during the academic year. These rotations include Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at University Medical Center in New Orleans (six months) and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge (six months).  Each is fully funded with a resident stipend.  We accept six (6) interns each year.

The LSU Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship program only accepts applications from dental students enrolled in or graduated from accredited dental schools in the United States or Canada.  Applicants must also be a citizen of USA or Canada or have permanent residency status in the USA.  If you have applied to our residency program, you will be considered if you request consideration for the Internship positions.

A second letter should be from the Dean of the Dental School or his designated representative to indicate your academic credentials. Also required are undergraduate college and dental school transcripts and an official copy of your board scores.  If you are using a PASS application than the items needed in addition to PASS are a photograph, resume, and undergraduate transcripts.

We fill these positions as soon as possible immediately following the Match results each year. If you wish to have your application considered it is in your best interest to get these materials to us as soon as possible.
