John R. Gallo, III, DDS, MS
Dean, LSU Health School of Dentistry
Appointed dean of the LSU School of Dentistry in July 2024, John R. Gallo, III, DDS, MS, brings extensive knowledge of all aspects of the dental school to this top administrative position. A native of New Orleans, Dr. Gallo received his DDS from LSUSD in 1992; he has been a member of the faculty since 1996 when he joined the Department of Operative Dentistry and Biomaterials (now Department of Comprehensive Dentistry). As a faculty member in that department, he served as a course director and received both the Golden Apple and Allan A. Copping Teaching Awards for his efforts. Appointed director of clinical education in 2005, Dr. Gallo served in the position of assistant and associate dean of clinical affairs from 2008 until 2024.
Prior to attending LSU School of Dentistry, Dr. Gallo completed his undergraduate studies at Loyola University and the University of New Orleans. In 2002 he earned a master’s in health care management from the University of New Orleans.
He has been active in dental research and publishing with numerous research projects, IADR/AADR research abstracts, and published papers to his credit. Some of his professional accomplishments include membership in the International College of Dentists, American College of Dentists, Pierre Fauchard Academy, and Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He is also active in dental school accreditation activities, serving as a CODA site visitor, and successfully led the school through the past two site visits in 2016 and 2024.
