                                                Honorary Member and
                                                Apppointed to ADEA
                                                Council of DeansAt the Thomas P. Hinman
                                              Dental Meeting this
                                              spring, Henry A.
                                              Gremillion, DDS, MAGD, was
                                              named an honorary member
                                              of the Hinman Dental
                                              Society. Honorary
                                              membership is bestowed
                                              upon a dentist who has
                                              enhanced the dental
                                              profession and
                                              demonstrated a life of
                                              honor. To be considered
                                              for this special status,
                                              an individual's nomination
                                              must be signed by five
                                              active members and
                                              approved by two-thirds of
                                              the organization's
                                              executive council;
                                              two-thirds of the general
                                              membership who are present
                                              and voting must then
                                              approve it. Only 13
                                              dentists hold the title of
                                              honorary member today.
                                              When the Hinman Society
                                              held its first meeting in
                                              1912, it was considered to
                                              be the first clinic
                                              strictly for
                                              serious-minded educational
                                              purposes. Today the Hinman
                                              Dental Society is
                                              comprised of 800 dentist
                                              members, primarily located
                                              in metropolitan Atlanta,
                                              Georgia. The Hinman Dental
                                              Meeting is an annual
                                              tradition of the Society,
                                              providing dental
                                              professionals with
                                              outstanding educational
                                              and professional
                                              development opportunities.

                                              Schulman who has organized
                                              an alumni reception at the
                                              Hinman Dental Meeting
                                              since 2014. The reception
                                              gives alumni from the area
                                              an opportunity to meet
                                              with Dean Gremillion and
                                              learn the latest news of
                                              the school. The 2018
                                              meeting is scheduled for
                                              March 22-24 at the Georgia
                                              World Congress Center in
                                              Atlanta; the alumni
                                              reception will be held on
                                              Friday, March 23. The
                                              LSUSD administration
                                              appreciates Dr. Schulman's
                                              continued support. At the closing session of
                                              the American Dental
                                              Association House of
                                              Delegates in March, Dean
                                              Gremillion began his term
                                              as board director of the
                                              ADEA Council of Deans. As
                                              director, he will serve as
                                              a liaison between the ADEA
                                              Board of Directors and the
                                              Council of Deans. The ADEA
                                              Council of Deans consists
                                              of the dean of each U.S.
                                              dental school; the chief
                                              dental administrative
                                              officer of each affiliate
                                              (non-dental school) member
                                              institution conducting
                                              non-hospital-based
                                              advanced dental education
                                              programs; the chief dental
                                              officer of the U.S. Air
                                              Force, Army, Navy, Public
                                              Health Service, and
                                              Veterans Administration;
                                              and the president of the
                                              Association of Canadian
                                              Faculties of Dentistry.

                                                Association Gathers in
                                                New OrleansThis spring Dean Henry
                                              Gremillion welcomed over
                                              30 members of the Parker
                                              E. Mahan Alumni
                                              Association to the
                                              organization’s annual
                                              meeting. Held at Hotel
                                              Monteleone in the French
                                              Quarter, the program
                                              included continuing
                                              education courses, the
                                              exchange of ideas and
                                              information, and
                                              fellowship. All who
                                              practice or who have an
                                              interest in practicing in
                                              the area of orofacial pain
                                              are invited to attend the
                                              annual meeting. Topics
                                              covered this year included
                                              TMD, other types of
                                              orofacial pain, sleep
                                              disorders, and the effects
                                              of diet on overall health.
 Many of the meeting
                                              attendees had completed
                                              the LSUSD Orofacial Pain
                                              Continuum, which is
                                              organized by LSU Health
                                              New Orleans Continuing
                                              Dental Education. In June
                                              the Fourth Annual
                                              Orofacial Pain Continuum
                                              began at the dental
                                              school. The six-part
                                              course is designed for
                                              dentists and other health
                                              care professionals who
                                              have a desire to enhance
                                              diagnosis and management
                                              of patients with TMD,
                                              sleep disorders, and other
                                              types of orofacial pain.
                                              Attendees for the fourth
                                              session travel from a
                                              variety of locations,
                                              including Canada, Florida,
                                              South Dakota, and
                                              Maryland. The course will
                                              wrap up in May 2018; the
                                              next LSUSD Orofacial Pain
                                              Continuum is scheduled
                                              from June 2018 to March
