7/25/17 Update

LSUSD Team,

I am happy to announce that recovery from the significant water intrusion at the School of Dentistry has been most positive.  LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry will resume normal operations on Wednesday, July 26, 2017. Classes will be held and patients will be seen as scheduled.  Please note that elevator service is currently limited to the Clinic Building (at present 2 elevators).  Crews continue to work to expand functional elevators.  I am appreciative of our patients, students, staff, and faculty for patience and understanding during the aftermath of this most unexpected event.    That we were able to reopen as soon as we have is a testament to the dedication of our Facilities staff.  Since Saturday afternoon, LSU Health Facilities personnel have worked with contractors and Entergy to de-water, repair damaged electrical and elevator equipment and re-energize the buildings. Approximately one million gallons of water were pumped out of the interconnected basements below both the E. E. Jeansonne Clinic Building and the adjacent Administration Building.

It is important that the access to the building today be limited to those directly involved with the recovery / clean up efforts.

Thank you.  See you tomorrow.

7/24/17 Update

Dear All,

Efforts to restore the School of Dentistry's critical functions related to the water intrusion which occurred on Saturday evening are ongoing.  The LSU Health New Orleans Facility Services team has been working tirelessly to that end.  However, power has not yet been restored.  It will be necessary that classes and patient appointments at the 1100 Florida Avenue School of Dentistry Campus be cancelled on Tuesday, July 25.  Access to the building will be limited to personnel critical to restoration of function and continuation of research operations as necessary.  All off campus rotations to include the IPE Primary Dental and Medical Clinic will be maintained.   Please contact patients you have scheduled for tomorrow to inform them not to come to the school and to reschedule their appointment.  I am hopeful that we will resume operations at the campus on Wednesday, July 26.  Information updates will be shared as it made available.  Please check your email and text messages frequently.

Thank you for your understanding.

07/23/17 Update

Dear LSUSD Family,

The heavy rainfall that occurred Saturday, July 22, 2017, flooded the basements of the main buildings on the dental school campus, which took on about 1 ½ feet of water. Critical electrical infrastructure was affected. Repairs are underway; however, due to loss of power and compromise in other mechanical functions it will not be possible to have services restored to the School of Dentistry by tomorrow Monday, July 24. Classes and patient appointments at the 1100 Florida Avenue School of Dentistry Campus are cancelled, and only essential personnel should report for work on Monday.  Please contact patients you have scheduled for tomorrow to inform them not to come to the school and to reschedule their appointment.  Information updates will be shared as they are made available.  Please  check your email and text messages frequently.

Thank you for your understanding.
