The first appointment consists of an oral health assessment, which includes blood work, x-rays and an oral exam. LSUSD faculty will then review a patient's record to determine if students are able to provide the oral health care required and/or if the treatment offers students the appropriate learning opportunities. Please remember that the School of Dentistry's primary mission is education.

The initial appointment fee can range from $50-$80 and can be paid by cash, personal check, VISA or MASTERCARD. No dental treatment is provided during this examination.

Children age 13 and under can be seen in the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic. For a screening appointment call (504) 941-8201 (age 0-6) or 941-8196 (age 7-13). Minors age 14-17 are treated in the adult clinics by appointment and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for each appointment.

The following information is required on the first appointment:

  • physician's name, phone number and address;
  • Social Security number;
  • list of any medications patient is taking.
