The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Dentistry (LSUSD), founded in 1966, is the only dental school in the state and educates over 80% of the dentists practicing in Louisiana today. Since its inception, the school has educated 2,036 dentists, 955 dental hygienists, and 236 dental laboratory technologists. Each year, LSUSD students and residents are responsible for nearly 100,000 patient visits in 24 locations, many of which are in underserved areas. Predoctoral and graduate dental students provide the care under the supervision of LSUSD faculty.

To become a patient at the LSUSD main clinic (1100 Florida Avenue), please call (504) 619-8770 Monday through Friday (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) to schedule a screening appointment. Children age 13 and under can receive dental care through the LSUSD Department of Pediatric Dentistry. For children ages 6 and under, call (504) 841-8201; for children ages 7-13, call (504) 841-8196. Patients interested in orthodontic care, please call the LSUSD Department of Orthodontics at (504) 235-7349 or (504) 235-7382.

Due to increased demand for dental care at LSUSD, an immediate appointment may not be possible. However, children can obtain an appointment relatively quickly through the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. Dental care is not provided free of charge; LSUSD student fees are typically about 50% of the cost of private dental care. The dental school offers handicap accessibility and parking.

Please note that children may not be left unattended in the reception areas during a parent's appointment. Childcare services are not provided by LSUSD, and children may enter the treatment area only for their own dental appointments. Please make the necessary arrangements if you have children.
