Overview | Baton Rouge | Alexandria | Lafayette Overview The LSUSD satellite dental clinic in Alexandria serves a nine-parish area in central Louisiana. The Rapides Foundation provided a $783,000 three-year grant to start the clinic England Airpark in 1998. Since its inception, the clinic has had approximately 5,000 patient visits annually -- providing much needed care to the indigent and working poor of the area. The clinic is a tremendous service to the impoverished of the area, and, without it, many may not receive the oral-health care they need. LSUSD dental and hygiene students provide the oral health care. In 2002, LSUSD received a $1 million grant from Health Resources and Services Administration to provide affordable oral health care to HIV-positive patients in central Louisiana. The grant will be used to fund patient care, salaries and education to central Louisiana dentists. From an educational perspective, LSUSD students rate the Alexandria clinic rotation as one of their best educational experiences. The varied patient base, faculty support and hospital assignments further prepare them to become skilled dental professionals and expose them to an array of experiences in dentistry they may not have otherwise. The dental clinic is open all year, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., except for scheduled school holidays.

Due to the number of patients treated and the nature of the student clinic, there may be a waiting period. Emergency care is provided for existing patients only.
