George Zakhary, DDS, MD

Assistant Professor


Dr. Zakhary received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Creighton University. He then attended dental school at the University of Oklahoma, and medical school at Louisiana State University Health in Shreveport. He went on to complete both his General Surgery Internship and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Louisiana State University Health in Shreveport. He further subspecialized in the accredited Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery fellowship at LSU.


Upon completion of his fellowship in July of 2014 he joined the LSU Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department. He is based in Baton Rouge at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. He has taken a special interest in educating future healthcare providers through workshops and courses he arranged during his time in professional school, receiving multiple awards for his efforts. His primary areas of interest include cleft and craniofacial surgery, orthognathic surgery, facial trauma, benign head and neck pathology, and dentoalveolar surgery. He has authored journal articles on craniofacial surgery, orthognathic surgical treatment of sleep apnea, as well as a book chapter on treatment of mandibular pathology.
