SERVICES Courier: A courier delivers requested items between the Isché Medical Library and the Dental Library on Tuesdays and Fridays. This free service is available to the LSUHSC community. Reserve Collection: The library maintains a reserve collection behind the circulation desk. This collection mainly consists of current-semester textbooks, course-related materials from faculty members, and various dental and medical reference sources. Most reserve items, excluding high-demand materials, reference books, and personal items from faculty, may be checked-out after 4:00 p.m. and must be returned to the library within one hour after opening time the following day. Fines for overdue reserve items accrue at a rate of twenty-five cents per hour. Reference Services: The library staff can provide information related to dentistry and medicine from print and online sources. Instruction in Library Resources: Classes in searching MEDLINE via PubMed, electronic journals, RefWorks, health literacy, and other library resources are offered throughout the year and are open to LSUSD faculty and students. Additionally, library staff will gladly assist individual users with searching library databases and using other resources. INNOPAC: Online Public Access Catalog Connect to Innopac, the LSUHSC Libraries online catalog and circulation system to locate library books, journals, and audiovisual materials, find out the circulation status and due date of checked out volumes, and learn what current journal issues the library has received. In addition to the LSUHSC Libraries in New Orleans, Innopac includes the collections of the libraries at LSU Health Science Center in Shreveport and Conway Hospital in Monroe. To search for materials in the dental school library, click on "Items in the Isché and Dental Libraries." Services for Dental Practitioners Interlibrary Loan Service:Interlibrary loan services are available to all LSUSD faculty, staff, and students as well as practicing dental health professionals in the New Orleans area. LSUHSC patrons can order requests via ILLiad, a web-based ILL system. Once users register for ILLiad, they can place requests and check on the status of their requests. They will receive notification from the system when materials are received. Library staff will attempt to fill the request for free, but there may be a charge for some materials or from some libraries. There may also be a royalty charge on some materials depending on its standing within the copyright law. When registering as a new user, be sure to select "Dental Circulation Desk" as Delivery Location, unless you prefer to pick up articles at the medical school library The Library Explorer, dental library newsletter, with articles on library services, recent acquisitions, and LSUHSC faculty publications.
