 SERVICES FOR DENTAL  PRACTITIONERS

LSUSD alumni and all dental health professionals in Louisiana are invited to use the services of the LSU School of Dentistry Library, subject to the following policies:

  • Dental health professionals may use all library resources when in the LSUSD Library. This includes books, journals, audiovisual materials, reserve items, photocopiers, reference services, and public computers for access to library systems.

 Books:

  • All dental health professionals practicing in Louisiana may check out circulating books. Registration is required for circulation privileges. To register, dental health professionals must complete a "Patron Registration Form," available at the circulation desk. A driver’s license and professional license are required for identification. At the time of registration, a barcoded library card will be issued to expedite checking out materials during subsequent visits. Registration must be renewed annually.

  • Books must be checked out in person at the library; the library will not mail books to individuals. A maximum of five books may be checked out at a time. If the books are overdue by thirteen days or more, all circulation privileges will be suspended until the late materials are returned.

  • Books may be renewed for two weeks. Renewal requests may be made in person, via phone, or via email to dentlib@lsuhsc.edu. One renewal will be granted if no other patron is waiting for the book.

  • Books should be returned directly to the library.

  • Practitioners in Louisiana unable to visit the library may borrow dental library books through the interlibrary loan service of their local public library.

Journal Articles:

  • Dental professionals not affiliated with LSUHSC may not borrow journals from the library. Photocopiers are available in the library for any copying needs.

  • To request photocopies of articles from journals in the LSU School of Dentistry Library, dental practitioners must register as a Loansome Doc user.  There are 2 steps involved: 1) contact the dental library to request Loansome Doc Agreement forms   2) Fill out the Loansome Doc registration form at https://docline.gov/loansome/login.cfm.  Once your Loansome Doc account is created, you can order documents electronically via Pubmed http://pubmed.gov
