What is
Dental Laboratory Technology?
A career in dental laboratory technology can
offer you many rewards and opportunities.
Acquiring a formal education in dental laboratory
technology from Louisiana State University Health
Sciences Center School of Dentistry (LSUSD) can
help to maximize these opportunities. This

materials and techniques will allow you to play a
vital role in changing patients' lives by helping
to create beautiful smiles and optimum oral
health. With this formal education, you will
become a skilled technician giving you the
opportunity to work in private dental offices,
small or large commercial dental laboratories,
dental schools or dental manufacturing
companies.

What does LSUSD have to
offer?
LSUSD offers an Associate of Science degree in
Dental Laboratory Technology. The program offers
intensive training in all phases of fixed
prosthodontics, removable prosthodontics,
orthodontics, and implant restoration. The program
is unique in the nation because its students
construct actual clinical cases for school
patients. As an LSU dental laboratory technology
student, you will receive instruction in and work
with state of the art equipment. In
addition, you will receive instruction from
teachers who are certified in their specialties
and who, through years of experience, excel at
teaching dental laboratory technology. A number of
faculty members are master-certified dental
technicians (MCDT). The LSU program is the only
dental laboratory technology program in the nation
that is fully integrated as part of a dental
school's program in dentistry.
Student life at the Louisiana State University
School of Dentistry combines the best of two
worlds: the excitement of a great city and a
close-knit university family working together on a
beautiful campus. The school, located on 20 acres
in a residential section of New Orleans next to
beautiful City Park, is close to Lake
Pontchartrain, the Jazz and Heritage Festival,
Mardi Gras parades, shopping, and the French
Quarter.
Understanding your needs is a priority at the
school. Some of the services you will appreciate
are housing assistance, a dental library, a
bookstore and gift shop, and a snack bar. Your
academic work will be demanding, but you will
still find time to participate in intramural
sports, student government, social events, or
part-time employment.
