The Program in Endodontics is a 24-month offering designed to give advanced education to an individual committed to the practice, teaching, or research of endodontics. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, the student will receive a certificate in endodontics and will possess the necessary credentials to be declared "board eligible" by the American Board of Endodontics. The student will spend approximately 60 percent of the assigned time in clinical practice and the remaining in basic and clinical science lectures, research, and seminars. Clinical experience will include the complete scope of endodontic practice. Medically compromised as well as healthy patients are treated under appropriate supervision. The range of treatment includes emergency and diagnostic treatment, nonsurgical and surgical therapy, microscopic endodontics, vital and nonvital bleaching procedures, intentional replants, and root extrusion techniques. Treatment of 250 cases and conduct of an original research project are required for completion of the program.

Research experience and clinical experience beyond dental school (such as private practice, military experience, residencies, or teaching) will strengthen the applicant's credentials.

The deadline for completed applications is September 1st of the year preceding anticipated enrollment. The PASS deadline is usually earlier. Interviews are held during September. Acceptances are notified on the first Monday in November.
