Advanced Education in General Dentistry

Overview

This is a one-year advanced education school based program, which offers a certificate upon completion. The program emphasizes comprehensive diagnosis and treatment through a variety of clinical and didactic experiences. The program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Students spend approximately 80% of the assigned time in clinical practice at the School of Dentistry. Medically compromised as well as healthy patients are treated under appropriate supervision. Rotations include assignments to a hospital based outpatient clinic, a mobile dental unit designed to treat children, and the TMD clinic at the dental school. Clinical training is supplemented by lecture, seminar, demonstrations and discussion.

The objectives of the program are to increase the students' confidence and skill in all aspects of dentistry including diagnosis and treatment planning, complex restorative dentistry, restoration of dental implants, and practice management. The present stipend is $36,413.

Participation in the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS) is optional. Participation in the National Matching Service is required. A $30.00 processing fee payable to the LSU School of Dentistry is required for all applicants.

Selected applicants will be invited for a personal interview.
