Prosthodontics
Overview
The Program in Prosthodontics
is a thirty-six month
course of study,
commencing in July
of each year. The
time spent in the
program may vary
since it is designed
to encompass the
three main areas
of prosthodontics,
namely, removable,
fixed and maxillofacial
prosthodontics. Upon
successful completion
of the program, the
student will be awarded
a certificate in
prosthodontics and
will be eligible
to take the American
Board of Prosthodontics
examination. The
thirty-six month
course of study includes
the following: (1)
seminars in clinically
oriented basic science
courses, (2) instruction
in advanced clinical
procedures, (3) clinical
science courses,
which include occlusion,
oral medicine, oral
pathology, periodontic-prosthetic,
prosthetics, oral
facial pain, and
other multidisciplinary
courses, (4) research
opportunities in
the basic sciences
or clinical areas,
(5) selective courses
to prepare for a
career in academic
dentistry, (6) multiple
other courses that
allow the student
to help tailor the
program, and (7)
the opportunity to
obtain a Master of
Science degree through
the Graduate School.
Three applicants are
selected each year,
and candidates should
possess competitive
academic credentials
and have demonstrated
an interest in prosthodontics.
Additional experience
beyond dental school
and submission of
the results of the
Graduate Record Examination
strengthen the applicant's
credentials. A personal
site visit is encouraged
for the benefit of
the applicant and
the faculty. All
applications should
be received by September
30th.
