The LSUSD Department of
Periodontics is responsible for teaching both predoctoral dental
students as well as graduate residents in the field of periodontics.
The department of periodontics offers predoctoral courses that combine
both didactic learning and direct clinical experience beginning in the
second year, expanding in scope and student responsibility in the third
year, and continues into the fourth year to provide the student with
experience with continuity of care issues. The graduate periodontics
residency is a three-year program with heavy emphasis on the clinical
treatment of patients and clinical research activities. Residents are
exposed to all of the contemporary nonsurgical and surgical modalities,
including regeneration, dental implants, laser surgery and esthetic
plastic periodontal surgery. Most residents also complete a masters
degree in oral biology. The department of
periodontics faculty contribute to both didactic and clinical
instruction. The department also provides consultation services to all
of the other clinical department on request. |
