New Faculty Members Join LSUSD

This summer LSUSD was pleased to welcome four new full-time instructors to the faculty.

Two faculty members with extensive training in oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgery have joined the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Beom-June Kim, DMD, MD, received a BS from Cornell University in 1998 and his DMD in 2004 from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He then attended the University of Maryland, receiving an MD in 2008 and completing the oral and maxillofacial surgery residency in 2011. He came to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at LSUHSC in Shreveport for a two-year fellowship in head and neck surgery/microvascular reconstruction. Dr. Kim is first author of "Oculocardiac Reflex Induced by an Orbital Floor Fracture:  Report of a Case and Review of the Literature", recently published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and is currently working on "Reconstruction of Lip Defects", a chapter in Lip Cancer, to be published by Springer. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Waleed Zaid, DDS, graduated from Ajman University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Dentistry in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2003. Following dental school, he interned in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the UAE Ministry of Health in Dubai. From 2005-2006 he was an oral and maxillofacial surgery demonstrator at Ajman University and from 2006-2008 he trained in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Al-Qassimi Hospital. He attended the oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at McGill University Faculty of Dentistry from 2008-2012; he then trained for an additional year in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction at the Boston Medical Center. In 2012 Dr. Zaid was awarded a master's in oral and maxillofacial surgery for his thesis "In Vitro Effects of Bisphosphonates on Oral Squamous-Cell Carcinoma BHY Cells and BHY-Induced Osteoclasts".

Molly Rosebush, DDS, MS, assistant professor in the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry and Biomaterials, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, received her BS from Duke University in 2000 and her DDS from the University of Michigan in 2005. Dr. Rosebush earned an MS and certificate in oral and maxillofacial pathology from Ohio State University in 2008. She comes to LSUSD from the University of Tennessee where she served in the departments of oral and maxillofacial pathology and pathology. Dr. Rosebush has presented thirty continuing education courses, invited lectures, and oral presentations and is the author or co-author of ten articles published in peer-reviewed journals. She is currently writing a chapter for a dental hygiene oral pathology textbook. She also serves as a reviewer for Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and Head and Neck Pathology. A recipient of various awards as a dental student, resident, and faculty member, Dr. Rosebush is also a member and past-president of Omicron Kappa Upsilon.

Molly Rosebush, DDS, MS

Jessica Owens, DMD, assistant professor in the Department of Periodontics, is already familiar to many LSUSD faculty and students as she received her certificate in periodontics from the school in July. A native of Slidell, in 2003 she earned a BS in biomedical sciences and a BA in psychology, both summa cum laude, from the University of Alabama (UAB). Following completion of her DMD from UAB in 2008, Dr. Owens entered the general dentistry residency at LSUSD. In 2010 she began the advanced education program in periodontics. In 2012-2013, Dr. Owens served as chief periodontics resident and as one of two resident representatives to the LSUSD Advanced Education Committee. Her advanced education research compared the use of loupes to a microscope during scaling and root planning.
