Cell Phone Policy
The Library Advisory Committee has approved a new policy to discourage cell phone use in both of the LSUHSC libraries.  Please turn your phone ringers to the lowest setting or to vibrate, and use your cell phones in the lobby outside of the library. We appreciate your observance of this restriction, which library users requested.

New Books in the Dental Library
Look for all new titles (except textbooks in the reserve collection) in the dental library on the “Recent Acquisitions” bookcase, which is near the popular browsing collection.  New books from Quintessence Publishers take up one side of the bookcase; the other has new volumes from all other publishers.  These new books may be checked out of the library.

Another way to find out what new books are in the library is to view “Recent Acquisitions” on the library web page at http://www.lsusd.lsuhsc.edu/Libr/recent_acquisitions.htm.  This list includes books received since the last issue of the library newsletter.  Each issue of the newsletter also has a list of recent acquisitions. Here are two of our new volumes, Infectious Diseases and Lasers in Dentistry.

When funds permit, the dental library purchases medical books that are related to the care of oral health patients.  Infectious Diseases,  3rd edition, edited by Sherwood L.Gorbach, John G.Bartlett and Neil R.Blacklow,  Phila., Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, 2004 is a comprehensive tome on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases. This edition discusses many new developments in infectious medicine, such as bioterrorism, West Nile virus, hospital infections, and emerging infections.  Each chapter in this 2,515-page book is written by recognized experts in the field.  In the section on head and neck in Part V, Clinical Infections, we find chapters on “Dental Infections, “ “Infections of Head and Neck Spaces and Salivary Glands,” and “Infections of the Sinuses and Parameningeal Structures.”

Lasers in Dentistry: Revolution of Dental Treatment in the New Millennium, edited by Isao Ishikawa, John Frame, and Akira Aoki, Amsterdam, Elsevier, 2003, contains the proceedings of the 8th International Congress on Lasers in Dentistry, held in Japan in 2002.  The numerous papers in the volume were contributed by an international array of authors.  Unlike many conference proceedings, this 489-page book has both an author and subject index, which makes it easy to find references to specific topics in lasers.

Please visit the dental library to browse the new book shelves or to find a specific book via the catalog.  Remember that you may also request that books or journals in the LSUHSC Isché Medical Library be sent out to the dental library for your use via our daily courier service.
