LSUSD
History Database
Who had alligators at the dental school? Who
won the Chancellor’s Award in 2000?
Who was in the first LSUSD class?
You can find this information plus an abundance of other facts
and trivia in the Dental School Clippings File, a collection of
newspaper articles about events, students, faculty, and staff at LSUSD.
The file, which Mrs. Margery Suberville, the first LSUSD
librarian, started in 1966, is now indexed in a ProCite database on the
Web. Articles in the
collection cover such topics as commencements; faculty
research, honors, and promotions; dental school social events; student scholarship
and award winners; and obituaries.
To locate an
article about a person or topic, go to the dental school home page. Under Databases you’ll see a link to Reference Web Poster,
a collection of databases created by LSUHSC library staff members.
Select Dental School Clippings File and search for the name or
subject you wish to find. Once you find the date of an article, let us know which one
you need, and we’ll retrieve it from our file for you to read. Although
the collection covers 1966 through the present, the index only goes back
to 1995 so far. Let us know
if you need help using the index or have questions about this
collection.
Dental
Materials Reviews
Another database in Reference Web Poster is Dental Materials Reviews, an
active index of several publications that rate and review dental
materials and products. Library
staff members read and index new issues of the Dental Advisor, Clinical
Research Associates Newsletter, Reality Now, and The ADEPT
Report. To see these reviews,
click on Reference Web Poster on the library homepage. To search
the Dental Materials Reviews database alone, click on the box next to Search and
select the database.
It is often very
difficult to find information on dental materials and products.
The publications that review this type of material are generally
not indexed in MEDLINE or other biomedical literature databases.
The Dental Materials Reviews database is often the only way to
access this information. This
database began with the 1998 issues and is updated periodically
throughout the year. You
can search it by brand names, manufacturers, medical subject headings, or
keywords.
