Quintessence
Publications Donated to the Dental Library
For many years, the LSU School of Dentistry has been
the beneficiary of a generous donation by Quintessence Publishing
Company. In 1991, at the 10th International Symposium on Ceramics,
this international publisher of high-quality dental books and journals announced that it would contribute all of
its past and future publications to our dental library in honor of Dr. John
McLean. In response, the library designated all Quintessence
publications as the McLean Collection.
Dr. McLean, a researcher and private
practitioner in London, was consulting professor in fixed
prosthodontics and biomaterials at LSUSD and well known as the inventor
of aluminous porcelain and glass cermet-ionomer cements. His classic
two-volume work, The Science and Art of Dental Ceramics, published
by Quintessence in1979 and 1980, is still widely consulted.
LSUSD is quite fortunate to be
the ongoing recipient of this invaluable gift from Quintessence.
The cost of books and journal subscriptions donated by Quintessence last
year totalled over $4,000.00.
