Advanced Education -- Special Needs Dentistry Fellowship

The General Dentistry Residency offers a one-year fellowship in Special Needs Dentistry open to graduates of CODA-accredited U.S. dental schools as well as to graduates of dental schools outside of the United States. This fellowship is not CODA-approved.

The fellowship is located at the LSUSD satellite clinic in Pineville, Louisiana, at Pinecrest Supports and Services Center. The clinic staff treats individuals with developmental disabilities. During four weekdays, the fellow works with residents of the center; one day a week, the fellow treats individuals from the community who have development disabilities.

One fellow will be accepted each year. A fellowship certificate is awarded at the end of the program.

U.S. dental school graduates: Applicants who did not match through PASS with the General Dentistry Residency may apply for the Special Needs Dentistry Fellowship. The PASS application will be accepted. Click here for application requirements.

Graduates of dental schools outside of the United States may be considered for this one-year Special Needs Dentistry fellowship but not for the General Dentistry Residency. Click here for application requirements.

Requirements for Admission
Applicants must hold a DDS, DMD, or BDS.

Program Length
The 12-month program begins on July 1.

Students enrolled in the fellowship receive a stipend.

Graduates of U.S. Dental Schools
- PASS application or LSUSD advanced education application
- 2 x2 photograph
- CV or Resume
- PASS application or official predental (college) and dental school transcripts
- Copy of dental school diploma with English translation, if applicable
- Official copy of Parts I and II National Board scores
- Three letters of recommendation, one must be from the dean of your dental school, one from the chairperson of the Comprehensive or General Dentistry Department at your dental school, and one from a faculty member who can discuss your talents.
-LSU processing fee of $50.00, check or money order payable to LSUHSC School of Dentistry

Graduates of Dental Schools Outside of the U.S.
- LSUSD advanced education application
- 2 x 2 photograph
- CV or Resume
- Official dental school transcripts with ECE Report
- Copy of high school and dental school diplomas, with English translation, if available
- Offical copy of Parts I and II National Board scores
- Certified TOEFL less than 3 years old (if applicable)
- Three letters of recommendation, one must be from the dean of your dental school, one from the chairperson of the Comprehensive or General Dentistry Department at your dental school, and one from a faculty member who can discuss your talents.
- Proof of U.S. residency or citizenship
-LSU processing fee of $50.00, check or money order payable to LSUHSC School of Dentistry

Official - either mailed directly to LSUSD from these institutions or in an unopened envelope with the institution's stamp or signature across the unopened flap closure line.
